Your Neighbor’s Guide to Staying Safe Online
At Resound, your security matters—being a good neighbor means protecting each other, online and off. We believe connecting you to the internet is about more than just speed and reliability—it’s about giving you the confidence to explore the digital world safely.
Think of the internet like a busy town square. It’s a wonderful place to connect with friends, do business, and learn new things, but it also pays to keep your eyes open. Just like you lock your front door at night, there are simple, practical steps you can take to secure your digital life.
We created this guide to help our neighbors spot scams, protect their privacy, and browse with confidence.

Secure your home with Resound's fast, reliable internet.
1. Spotting Phishing Emails
Phishing is a term for scammers sending fake emails pretending to be trusted companies or organizations, hoping you’ll share personal details. They might pretend to be your bank, a streaming service, or even an internet provider.
How to spot a fake:
Check the Sender: Does the email address look legitimate? If it claims to be from a big company but comes from a random Gmail or Yahoo address, it’s a scam.
Beware urgent language: Messages demanding “Immediate Action” are trying to pressure you—don’t rush.
- Hover, don’t click: Move your mouse over any links to see where they really lead. Strange or jumbled web addresses are a red flag.
Resound’s Promise:
- We will never ask for your Social Security number or bank details in an unsolicited email or call.
- Your payment details will be set up at the time of order, and can always change or review payment details securely in your customer portal at my.resoundnetworks.com.
2. Hanging Up on Phone Scams
Scammers may call pretending to be the IRS, the police, or even Resound. They might say you owe money or your service is at risk.
Simple rules to follow:
- Don’t Trust Caller ID: Scammers can “spoof” numbers to make it look like a local call or a government agency.
- Hang Up on Robots: If you pick up and hear a recorded message about a warranty or a lawsuit, just hang up. Pressing buttons to “speak to an agent” usually just confirms your number is active.
- Guard Your Wallet: legitimate companies will never demand payment via gift cards, wire transfers, or cryptocurrency. If someone asks for this, it is 100% a scam.
Resound’s Promise:
- We will never demand payment by gift card, wire, or crypto.
- If a communication seems suspicious, hang up or don’t click. Instead, call us at (800) 806-1719 to check.

3. Locking the Digital Front Door: Passwords
Reusing easy passwords is like leaving your house key under the mat.
Stronger passwords made simple:
- Make it long: Use a phrase that’s easy to remember but hard for machines to guess.
- Don’t reuse passwords: A breach at one site shouldn’t unlock them all.
- Try a password manager: These tools can create and store strong passwords for you—think of it as a safe for your keys.
4. Protecting Your Personal Information
In a small town, everyone knows everyone—but online, it’s best to keep some things to yourself.
- Be mindful on social media: Avoid posting details like your address, vacation plans, or anything that could help someone answer your security questions.
- Skip online quizzes: “What’s your first pet’s name?” may seem fun—scammers use these for identity theft.
5. Staying Safe on Public Wi-Fi
Using the free Wi-Fi at a coffee shop or airport is convenient, but it’s not private. It’s like having a conversation in a crowded room—anyone nearby might be able to listen in.
Protect yourself:
- Avoid sensitive tasks: Don’t access bank accounts or enter card numbers on public networks—use your secure Resound connection instead.
- Check for website security: Look for the padlock icon in your browser before entering info.
